Forehand & Wadsworth Company History
Forehand & Wadsworth was an American firearms manufacturer based in Worcester, Massachusetts, active from 1871 to 1890. The company was founded by Sullivan Forehand and Henry C. Wadsworth after their earlier partnership in the firm of Allen & Wheelock. Forehand & Wadsworth became well known for producing affordable, reliable revolvers during the late 19th century, particularly pocket-sized defensive arms.

After Wadsworth’s death in 1884, the company continued under the name Forehand Arms Company, which remained active until it was purchased by Hopkins & Allen in 1902. Despite their modest cost, Forehand & Wadsworth revolvers earned a reputation for solid construction and are now collected as representative examples of American 19th-century pocket arms.
Condition: 2 ½” barrel with a good bore , minor pitting from black powder use and still showing good rifling. Finish retains about 80% of the original nickel and looks very nice. with minor scratches, freckling , handling marks. Black checkered hard rubber grips are in excellent condition. Marking are legible. Mechanically works very good in double and single action. Timing and lock-up are very good with just a tiny bit of cylinder play. This is an all original complete model with matching numbers .
Owning a well-preserved example, such as the one described, provides a glimpse into the craftsmanship and innovation of the late 19th century firearms industry. Overall, this F&W revolver is an very good example of a rare and historically significant firearm from the late 19th century.
