Description:
Winchester Model 1885 Low Wall in 25-20 W.C.F. cal.
Interesting American ingenuity!
Made in 1887, I believe this was originaly a .22.rf
Probably shot out with old corrosive 22 ammo early in its life.
The owner had the bright idea to send it to Stevens to be re-bored to 25 Stevens rimfire.
The "J.Stevens A&T.Co" logo was used by Stevens from the late 1800s to 1915, so the re-bore happened sometime before 1915,
Interesting enough, the gun tech. at Stevens bored it out to .257, which was correct for Stevens centerfire .25 cal ammo.
.25 Stevens rimfire should have been .251, so it probably didn't shoot 25 RF ammo very well being .006" oversize.
The bore looks near perfect. Bright and shiny. Making it a perfect canditate to convert from rimfire to centerfire, chambered in the classic 25-20 WCF.
Functions as it should with an early Beech style front sight, a Lyman rear dovetail blank, and a period Marbles tang sight.
Great historic conversation piece, and in excellent condition for being 138 years old.
Antique, so can be shipped to your door with proof over 21.
