This Armi Desenzani deluxe sidelock side-by-side is a superb example of pre-war Italian gunmaking, built in 1940 by Laboratorio Armi di Lusso E. Desenzani of Brescia. Constructed on a classic Holland & Holland–style hand-detachable sidelock action, the gun features double triggers with an articulated front trigger, automatic ejectors, bushed firing pins, clipped fences, and a hidden treble fastener—hallmarks of a high-grade sporting shotgun. The 28.5-inch blued steel barrels are marked “ACCIAIO POLDI ANTICORRO,” fitted with a matted solid tapering rib and gold front bead, and choked full/full, making this an ideal long-range game gun. Italian proof marks dated 1940 confirm its pre-war origin, and the gun is chambered for 2¾-inch shells. The action displays near full-coverage fine floral scroll engraving in the classic H&H pattern, with the maker’s name engraved prominently on the underside, and a tang-mounted manual safety with gold-inlaid “S” indicator completes the action.
Condition is very fine overall, with approximately 95% original blue remaining on the barrels, minor thinning and patchy loss consistent with age, and light, honest discoloration on the action. The gun is mechanically excellent, tight on face, and functions exactly as intended. The straight-grip walnut stock and matching forend are attractively figured and sharply checkered, showing only a few light handling marks and small scratches from careful use over time. A blank gold inscription oval adorns the stock, and an orange rubber recoil pad has been added for comfort. This is a refined, high-quality Italian sidelock from the golden era of European gunmaking—an elegant, mechanically sound, and highly collectible sporting shotgun that reflects both English influence and Italian artistry at a very high level.
