Description:

Synopsis:

Interesting early Springfield 1903 US military rifle, barrel dated 10/09, pre-WWI, that was likely reworked during WWII at the Raritan Arsenal in New Jersey as reflected by the "RA-P" cartouche on the left side of the stock. Despite its age and significant use, manual mechanics are correct and bore remains bright.

Description:

Standard configuration Springfield Model 1903 rifle, SN 386512, chambered in .30-06, with blade front and battle/ladder style (graduated 3-27) rear sight, barrel marked "SA/flaming bomb/10-09", standard receiver markings that reflect manufacturer, model, and SN. Smooth straight grip stock with high hump handguard with sighting channel, finger grooves, faint boxed “J.F.C.” and "RA-P" near the magazine disconnector, encircled "P" behind trigger guard, double reinforcing bolts, and checkered steel trapdoor buttplate.

Condition:

G-VG as rebuilt by Raritan Arsenal in New Jersey, often during World War II, with the "P" potentially pointing to an inspector (like Peterson) or "Proof. Now with considerable fading of the finish around receiver, magazine floorplate, and trigger guard. The reworked stock is oil stained with handling marks, a tiny chip at toe. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Correct manual mechanics. An interesting Springfield 1903 rifle that was later reworked/rebuilt by Raritan Arsenal in New Jersey.
