Description: Beautiful American Machine Works, Civil War era, Poultney and Trimble, Smith's Patent, single shot breech-loading percussion carbine SN: 7190 with matching numbers, cal. .50. Assembled with a 21 5/8" round/octagonal barrel having a brass blade front sight and an unmarked battle/ladder rear sight. Left side of color case hardened sideplate with bridging saddle ring marked with the Pultney and Trimble location in Baltimore, Smith's Patent, and an abbreviated address referencing the American Machine Works in Springfield, Massachusetts. On the right side of the receiver is a large, checkered color case hardened hammer. Smooth walnut stocks, slightly curved steel butt plate. Military inspections include a "L.F.R" (Lafayette F. Rogers) mark on the left side of the barrel near the receiver; on the left wrist of the buttstock is an encircled J.H. cartouche. Condition: Phenomenal original condition with minimal sharp edge wear and fading at the usual high points, especially the saddle ring bar/saddle ring, a few oxidative flecks on the trigger guard extension, and very superficial handling marks on the stock. Mirror bright bore. Correct manual mechanics. A gorgeous matching and all original rifle that would be extremely difficult to equal, never mind upgrade!
