Description: Classic Antique 19th Century Middle Eastern Flintlock Pistol Offered here for sale is a fine and classic collectible antique pistol-an example of a 19th-century Middle Eastern flintlock pistol, likely originating from regions influenced by the Ottoman Empire, Persia or the broader North African areas. These pistols were common during the 1800s, blending functional weaponry with elaborate artistry, often serving as status symbols for warriors, merchants, or nobility rather than just battlefield tools. They evolved from earlier European flintlock designs but incorporated local styles of embellishment in wood carving and exterior brass mounts or inlays. This specimen features a long 12-inch round barrel which is typical for these pistols, providing better accuracy and range compared to shorter European counterparts. It would often be made of Damascus steel or similar, with a .60 caliber bore (smoothbore, not rifled). The engraving combines intricate scrollwork, floral motifs, geometric patterns, or even military symbols like flags, which were hammered or chiseled into the metal for decoration. As a flintlock, it uses a traditional setup The hammer, lock plate, and trigger guard are frequently tooled or embossed. The stock and woodwork are incised with patterns inspired by Islamic art. This carving and chiseling not only enhanced the grip but also turned the pistol into a piece of functional art. The pommel is bulbous with brass butt cap and stirrups. The pistol is sound although there is a very old repair (a brass reinforcement plate) affixed just behind and under trigger guard. There is a forward crack which our gunsmith has secured but appears old and untouched which we have left “as is”. Avery attractive and collectible antique firearm. MM100-21 .
