Description:
WAR OF 1812 Antique U.S. M1808 Pattern FLINTLOCK Musket MARTIALLY INSPECTED

With Model 1817 HARPERS FERRY TRANSITIONAL LOCK

Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Martially Inspected U.S. Model 1808 Contract Pattern Flintlock Musket with a Model 1817 Harpers Ferry Transitional Lock, made circa the War of 1812 era. Europe was embroiled in the Napoleonic Wars and the young United States was sorely unprepared for any major military action, so Congress moved to equip state militias in 1808. About 85,200 “Model 1808” Muskets were produced by a total of 19 different contractors and delivered to the state militias. This move proved to be none too soon as the War of 1812 brought part of the European conflict to the shores of the young United States.

The left stock flat has the inspector’s mark “JS” for Inspector James Stubblefield, who was responsible for inspecting Model 1808 muskets. Many of these flintlock muskets were later updated to the percussion system for use during the American Civil War.

The overall condition is good. Bright gray patina. The stock is fine with a cartouche on the left flat and a thin hairline crack or two. The markings are legible. The smooth bore is reflective and dims near the muzzle. Robust action. Cartouche remnants on the left flat.

Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction.

Barrel is 45 inches.

Caliber: .69 Flintlock

Overall condition as seen in photos.
