Description:

Synopsis:

Attractive MI Carbine Model of 1943 made by Inland Division of GM, this example with all correct parts except for the National Postal Meter plum-toned trigger housing.

Description:

The M1 Carbine was designed as a lightweight alternative to the full-size M1 Garand rifle, weighing only about 5.2 pounds compared to the Garand’s 9.5 pounds. This example was made by Inland Division in 1943 with 15 shot magazine. Barrel marked “Inland MFG DIV, General Motors, dated 9-43”. Front of receiver marked “U.S. CARBINE CAL. 30 M1” while the rear of the receiver is marked “INLAND DIV” over the full serial number "941038". Fitted with winged front sight, Inland barrel band, “S”/unmarked L-flip rear sight, blued flat bodied bolt, a high wood walnut stock marked with an encircled P under the pistol grip, a large Inland logo on the right side of the butt, and the sling recess on left side marked with the “IO” subcontractor. Disassembly showing a plum tone National Postal Meter "N/16" marked trigger housing and an "HI" hammer, inner channel of handguard marked "IO". Complete with a 15-shot magazine, back spine marked "UQ".

Condition:

VG overall as one might expect from a battle rifle that was used in the field for nearly two years, likely undergoing at least a partial rebuild as reflected by the National Postal meter plum-toned trigger housing. Missing floor under bolt stop pin, allowing recoil spring visibility, does not interfere with bolt's function. Red paint added to front and base of rear sight. Dark oiled stock with scattered handling marks, no cracks. Bright bore with shallow erosions, good rifling. Correct manual mechanics.
