We are located in Antrim, New Hampshire Description: Winchester 1886 Lever Action Rifle in 45-70 Antique This is a Winchester 1886 Lever Action Rifle in 45-70 WCF is in a standard configuration with a full 26" Octagon barrel and with a leaf rear barrel sight and blade front sight. The butt stock and fore stock are walnut with a crescent but plate. Condition: The overall condition of this Winchester 1886 is fine with an even wood and metal patina appearance. The metal surfaces have a mostly toned out to an even sliver/gray patina with some mottled spotting in places. The barrel, lever, butt plate and fore cap have an even brown patina. The action which originally would have been color case hardened has toned to pleasing sliver finish with some spot staining. The fore cap screw on the right side is missing its head but most screws are in good shape with no turn wear. The end of the barrel is somewhat bright and it appears that it has been cleaned at some point, probably to eliminate a damage at the bore. The legends and markings are strong and clear. The bore is fine with strong rifling and only some slight pitting in places and would rate +7 or better. The walnut stocks are in good shape with even color they were refinished at some time in the distant past. They have the usual bumps and nicks common with a rifle this age. The butt stock and forearm match nicely. This rifle cycles a cartridge smoothly, locks up firmly, with a strong ejection and is in excellent mechanical condition. Large bore Winchester 1886 rifles are very popular in 45-70, a caliber that is easily purchased or hand loaded. This is an excellent example of an antique Winchester 1886 rifle in probably the most popular caliber made in 1891. Would be a great rifle to put back to use. It is being offered at a good price and since it is an antique it can be shipped directly to the buyer.
