This is a RARE Smith and Wesson .44 Hand Ejector Third Model of 1926 Wolf & Klar Engraved that is chambered in .44 S&W Special.
This revolver was first introduced at the request of Wolf and Klar of Fort Worth, Texas with an initial order of this model for 1500 units. According to the factory letter from Smith & Wesson 1000 of these had 5 inch barrels. This revolver is one of those 1000 revolvers that was shipped to them from Smith & Wesson on June 23rd, 1928. It has a special engraving which Wolf and Klar requested. According to the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd Edition, the Third Model was made from 1926-1941 with only 4,976 being made in total. This model became very popular with cattlemen and lawmen in Texas, cementing its "Wolf & Klar" nickname.
The pinned barrel is 5 inches long with a bore that is in excellent condition.
It is a square butt, N frame, and five screw 6-shot double and single action revolver.
It has a six shot fluted cylinder with a checkered cylinder release.
The serial number "31672" is on the frame on the extractor rod cut, butt, and the rear of the cylinder.
The left side of the barrel is marked "SMITH & WESSON".
The left side of the frame has the small S&W logo.
The right side of the barrel is marked "44 S.&W. SPECIAL CTG".
The right side of the frame is marked "MADE IN THE U.S.A."
The yoke and yoke cut are marked "65744".
It has a shrouded ejector rod.
The timing and lock up are perfect based on visual inspection.
The blue finish is in excellent condition and the engravings are in BEAUTIFUL condition.
It has a case color checkered hammer and smooth trigger.
It has a forged round blade fixed front sight and an integral square-notch fixed rear sight.
The top strap is grooved to reduce glare.
It has 2-piece pearl grips. The underside of the grips are unmarked.
The grips are in great shape. The back strap and front strap are smooth.
The S&W factory letter is included with this revolver.
This revolver qualifies as a curio and relic and can ship where legally allowed.
This revolver would make a great addition to any firearms collection.
