Description: This ornate, early 1900s Austrian SxS boxlock shotgun is a spectacular example of old-world craftsmanship, featuring a hand-engraved receiver with intricate rabbit and fowl scroll motifs, and a finely embellished top rib. Each barrel is accented with a gold-leaf inlay at the top rear where they join the receiver, and bears the marking “ESSEN FRIED KRUPP” on its side, denoting the use of premium Krupp steel. As is typical for Austrian guild guns of the period, the specific maker remains unidentified, though the overall execution reflects meticulous attention to every detail. Serial numbers on receiver and barrels are matching. The action is equipped with a traditional double-trigger configuration, a beaded front sight, and a checkered splinter forearm secured by an engraved Deeley latch release. The shotgun retains nearly all of its original lustrous bluing, with only a few minor handling marks present. It is fitted with a modern, beautifully crafted California walnut stock and forend. Elegant checkering, free of cracks or blemishes, and fitted with soft rubber buttplate. Below the wrist, the gold grip cap is etched with a diamond-shaped maker’s stamp surrounded by finely detailed swaying leaf scrollwork. Both barrels remain pristine, with smooth mirror bores.
