Description:

ANTIQUE Remington Smoot No. 4 New Model revolver, factory engraved, cal. .38 rimfire short, SN: 6471, nickel finish with open scroll engraving over the frame, cylinder, and 2.5" barrel. Fixed blade front sight, grooved rear sight. SN: "6471" is under the top strap and repeated on lower frame. Fitted with two-piece ivory grips, secured with a single mounting screw. Complete with an original green Remington cardboard box and cleaning rod, inner cover marked "No. 4 Revolver, Using 38 and 41 Cartridges" bearing "E. REMINGTON & SON" and "ILION, N.Y.", old hand written taped note "IVORY GRIPS #6471 .38 CAL R.F. ENG NIC" serving as end label. The .38 rimfire cartridge was a common self-defense round for small revolvers, often carried in vest pockets from the 1870s through the 1890s, remaining popular in antique revolvers and rifles into the early 1900s.

Condition:

VG/EXC factory nickel finish over loose scroll engraving, the finish with handling marks, a few patchy oxidative changes on the cylinder. Comparable or better condition grip straps. Smooth ivory panels, the left panel with a 3/8th inch crack near the top. Bright bore with sharp rifling. Correct manual mechanics, each cylinder locking up nicely against full cock. G- box with considerable flaking, poor quality glue and tape repairs.
