The Hood Fire Arms Company was formed by Freeman W. Hood in Norwich. Mr. Hood was an inventor and expert gunsmith. The Hood Firearms factory produced several lines of revolvers that were based on his patents
Hood formed his company in 1870, but also controlled the Norwich Arms Co. and the Norwich Lock Manufacturing Company, both of which made Suicide Specials. In addition he probably had a considerable interest in the Continental Arms Co., and the Bacon Manufacturing Co., both of Norwich, as well as an undetermined interest in outside firms.
Condition: 2 ½” round barrel has a good smooth bore with some minor spot pitting from black powder use .
The metal finish still retains some of the original nickel with remaining finish turning to a gun-metal gray patina , some scattered surface pitting and oxidation. The original black hard rubber grips with the flag in shield and George Washington logo are in good condition with just minor handling marks, small crack and wear to the top right grip.
Top of the barrel is marked “Royal” on the top strap. All marking are clear and legible.
The hammer holds in single action with a strong hammer spring but the cylinder will not rotate. Cylinder pull pin is a replaement, not original. All other parts appear to be there . Spring may need to be replaced. Please note: This gun is more of a display item or parts gun.
