Description:
Price includes shipping in the 48 states. The Enfield Pattern 1853 rifle-musket was one of the most widely used infantry arms of the American Civil War. Originally manufactured in Great Britain, it was imported in large numbers by both the Union and the Confederacy, with the South relying heavily on Enfields due to limited domestic arms production. This came right of an estate of an 80 year collection.

The barrel retains its 39 inch length with the "25" bore marks on the left of the breech, indicating it was originaly chambered in .577 caliber. This example appears to have a slightly enlarged smoothbore as seen on many of these. The rear sight has been period replaced with a simple notch type. The lock has a crisp "1862" date above the "TOWER" marking at the center, with the desirable crown stamp at the tail properly without the "VR" marking beneath it, indicating this rifle-musket was intended for export for use in the American Civil War, with the majority headed to the Confederacy and a large number captured by the Union blockades. The lock functions very well with nice clicks and a strong mainspring. The front section of the stock has been professionally replaced sometime in the past, and it is fitted with trapdoor type barrel bands. The well-done spliced section can be clearly seen in the photos, and everything behind that is the original wood, which has some very nice edges and some visible stampings. This Enfield Pattern 1853 displays nicely, and is priced to sell.

As an antique, this can ship directly to your doorstep in most states!
