Description:
Price includes shipping in the 48 states. The Smith carbines were widely issued to Union cavalry units during the American Civil War. This minty example is far above the majority in terms of condition and came right out of an estate of an 80 year collection.

Chambered for a unique gutta-percha cartridge, the .50-caliber Smith was designed for rapid loading on horseback and ease of maintenance in the field. Its hinged, break-open action allowed quicker reloading than traditional muzzleloaders of the time.

It retains most of its original blue finishes with some beautiful original case colors showing on the action. All markings are distinct, including the inspector initials in the stock. The bore shows little to no evidence of use and has crisp rifling with a shiny chamber. The front barrel band is missing a small screw, but it remains in place. The lock functions flawlessly with very crisp clicks. This would make a wonderful addition to any Civil War collection.

As an antique, this can ship directly to your doorstep in most states!
