Description:
Price includes shipping in the 48 states. This came right out of an estate of an 80 year collection. This Spencer Model 1860 carbine was originally made and used during the Civil War, and is one of approximately 11,000 that were altered and refurbished with three-groove rifling and a Stabler cutoff device between 1867-1874 by the Springfield Armory for reissue out west during the Indian Wars. The Spencer provided Union cavalry with a dramatic increase in firepower during the Civil War, as well as the Army out west.
This lever-action repeater has a seven-shot tubular magazine housed in the buttstock. It is chambered for both the .52 or .50 caliber Spencer rimfire cartridges (aka 56-52 and 56-50). The front sight has been period modified with a taller blade. The stock has a clear military inspection cartouche stamped on the left. The Stabler cutoff device and sling bar and ring assembly have been removed. The lock functions nicely, with crisp clicks. The metal surfaces show a characteristic frontier patina with lots of case colors showing on the hammer.
