Description:
Scarce S&W 1-1/2 New Model .32RF Revolver
Offered here for sale and just acquired is a scarce antique Smith & Wesson 19th century revolver made during the transition period between rimfire and centerfire ignition systems. This is a Smith & Wesson Model 1-1/2 revolver made in .32 rimfire. Serial number 86626 it was known as the NEW MODEL .32 revolver or the 2nd issue Model 1-1/2.  The revolver with spur trigger retains all of its original nickeled finish. Under the bright lamps of our camera setup the revolver shows evidence of some soft cloth polishing which is not prominent under normal circumstances. The factory rosewood grips are excellent as well as the bore.
The Smith & Wesson Model 1 ½ was introduced as the company’s second .32-caliber tip-up revolver, designed to bridge the gap between the small .22-caliber Model 1 and the larger .32-caliber Model 2. Chambered for the .32 rimfire cartridge, it featured a five-shot cylinder and single-action firing system — typical of early cartridge revolvers as manufacturers transitioned away from percussion cap and ball designs to self-contained metallic cartridges.
A 2nd Issue – fluted barrel & cylinder, rounded “birds-head” grip; more refined styling (1868–1875.
This revolver— fluted barrel and rounded grip with a spur trigger — fits squarely into the 2nd Issue category produced as a tip-up .32 rimfire model. Estimated manufacture date is around the early-to-mid 1870s (approx. 1870–1873). Original nickeled finish  makes this a  very collectible revolver and historical integrity of the piece.
