Fine Winchester Lee Navy Sporting Model Rifle .263 USN
Description:
Serial #14282, 6mm Lee (.263 USN), 28" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has some mild freckling within the grooves at the muzzle. This is a very handsome example of the commercial version of the USN Lee rifle, and does not have any of the naval contract or inspector markings. The metal retains 90-92% of the original blue with some minor silvering at the muzzle and along the high edges and projections. Additionally, there is streaked gray metal along the bearing surfaces, and some mottled gray and plum-brown on the handle of the straight-pull bolt, which is complete and still has the original extractor. The walnut stock has numerous small handling marks and small blemishes throughout the lightly sanded and re-oiled wood, and both the "WINCHESTER REPEATING / ARMS CO." hard rubber grip cap and checkered shotgun style buttplate are intact and in fine shape. The original rear barrel sight was removed and a blank added to the dovetail, and a Pacific bolt-mounted peep sight was installed. This is a fine example of a desirable Winchester Lee Sporting Rifle, and would make a great addition to any collection. Antique;
