Description:
Factory Engraved PARKER BROTHERS DHE Grade DOUBLE BARREL Hammerless Shotgun

1910 C&R GRADE 3 Side by Side 12 Gauge w/EJECTORS

Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R Parker Brothers DHE Grade Double Barrel Hammerless Shotgun with ejectors, made in 1910 in Meriden, Connecticut. Charles Parker was an entrepreneur who began working in U.S. manufacturing in the 1830s. Interestingly, one of his first products was a coffee mill. He also collaborated on several government contracts to make arms during the American Civil War, including one for the Model 1861 and then a truly interesting, rare breech-loading design for the state of Kentucky, called the Triplett & Scott Carbine. Finally, in 1866, after his experience in arms manufacture for the war effort, he and his sons, Wilbur and Dexter, began the company Parker Brothers, making sporting shotguns. This company is considered by many to have been the best manufacturer of fine American shotguns, ever. The company was in business until 1942.

The Parker DH, or Grade 3 was introduced in 1875 and was very popular at a cost of $100 (a 100 Dollar grade). The DH is the lowest grade Parker to be considered one of their high grade shotguns. This DHE has Damascus barrels. The stock is made of Circassian walnut. The stock commonly has a silver shield behind the tang, nickel or silver plated triggers and spear-pointed extensions to the stock side panels. The checkering on the stock is more elaborate than lower grades and is a deep, twenty lines to the inch. Stocks were fitted with a skeleton butt plate as standard but recoil pads were an option. Dogs were almost always a feature of the engraving on the sides along with some extensive scroll work.

The barrel length, gauge, barrel steel, straight stock, grade, and ejectors are verified on page 434 of “Parker Gun Identification and Serialization” by Price and Fjestad. According to page 291 of “The Parker Story” by Gunther, Mullins, Parker, Price, and Cote, only 3,522 firearms were completed in this configuration.

This example has been refinished. The overall condition is fine. The engraving on the frame are crisp. Stock and forend have little handling wear and are original. Wrist and forend checkering are well preserved. Legible markings throughout. The numbers match. The action is excellent. The bores are bright and smooth. The rubber buttplate is dry and intact.
Here is a nice example of a High Grade Parker Shotgun from 1910!
