Serial no. 561548, 3 3/4-inch barrel, .32 caliber. Blued finish with checkered wood grips with Rampant Colt medallions. Right side of frame reads U.S. PROPERTY. Left side with serial number. Accompanying the gun is 2 two-tone period correct magazines. Also included is the factory cardboard box containing its shoulder holster. Box marked HOLSTER, SHOULDER / CAL. 32 & 380 COLT / 1095 - 141-9494. Red Cross labeled olive drab green pouch present [as found with gun]. According to the accompanying Colt factory letter, this Model 1903 Pistol, was one of 900 pistols shipped to the United States Government on September 26, 1944. The shipment was directed to the Property Officer, Supply Division, Office of Strategic Services (OSS), at the Fowler Building in Rosslyn, Virginia, under Colt Factory Order No. 4420. The pistol was furnished with 1 extra magazine and blue finish. This documentation confirms its direct association with the OSS, the World War II predecessor to the CIA, making it a historically significant wartime-issued sidearm. Interesting to note, although there is no conclusive evidence tying this particular serial number to a unit or theater, pistols from the same shipment, only a few serial numbers away, have been documented in late-war Far East service, suggesting this example may also have traveled with OSS operatives in the closing months of the war. Condition: Fine to excellent, gun retains most original bluing with minor thinning and spots from storage. Action good, bore strong. Holster with little use evident, just storage and minor handling; outer box with scuffs and separations to ends. This Colt retains an appearance and condition seldom found outside of advanced collections.
