Description: Antique Colt 1849 Pocket.. Here is an excellent and fairly high condition 1849 Colt Pocket revolver. It has the sought after 6” barrel.. . This is the six shot version and in the standard 31 caliber cap and ball. The S/N is 246497 and all numbers are matching including the loading lever and the wedge.. The trigger guard was stamped with the number " 6 " up side down which made it a number " 9 " and then re stapmed with the number " 6 " right side up.. This is not un common with the 6 and 9 numbers or with any other number as far as that goes.. Colt factory workers did make mistakes.. This gun was made in 1863 right in the middle of the Civil War.. This gun has generous amounts of factory blue and case colors as you can see and looks even better in hand than it does in the photos.. The barrel has about 35% or more blue with most all the blue showing on the bottom of the barrel. The frame has a lot of bright vivid case colors..60% to 65% over all with a little more on the left side.. The grips are excellent with no cracks or chips and still showing 99% original piano varnish. Just missing a little varnish on the bottom flares. A perfect factory fit as well. The mechanics are excellent .. Lock up is crisp and tight as a new gun. The cylinder to arbor pin fit is tight with no side to side wobble. The cylinder scene is excellent with 95% very detailed scene still showing. Four of the six safety pins on the rear of the cylinder are full and like new with the remaining two showing some smashing. The nipples are excellent and full size with no smashing.. Rock solid like new barrel to frame fit. All the marking are excellent. The bore is mint. Bright and shiny as new. The cylinder chambers are excellent as well and smooth with no pitting. The screw heads are clean and sharp and not burred up but the two back strap screws show some turning but still with good serviceable slots.. The two rear trigger guard screws still show their bright fire blue. This is a well above average Colt 1849 Pocket at a most reasonable price.. A little more barrel blue would certainly put it in the higher price range but it is what it is and still a great looking 163 year old Civil War period Colt revolver.
