Description:
This Colt Single Action Army revolver, serial #206069, was shipped to A. F. Shapleigh Hardware Company, St. Louis, Missouri, on February 16, 1901, with four other guns. It was at that time a 4.75” barrel, blue and case colored gun in .41 Long Colt caliber, with standard hard rubber grips.

It appears the gun was returned to the factory and refurbished sometime after 1950. There are typical assembly or bin numbers (91) found on most parts, which the factory did to assure they would go back in the proper gun after finishing. The gun also has a sideways ampersand (&) stamped in the hammer notch. The original barrel has been replaced with a factory replacement 5.5” blued version used on first generation guns up to 1955, with the Colt address on the right side of the barrel rather than the top. The cylinder is a second generation, as evidenced by the rampant Colt stamped on the rear face. These cylinders would have been available as the first second generation guns were shipped from the factory late in 1955. All other exterior, visible parts were from the original gun. Colt Archive letter included but not pictured.

On the bottom of the frame and the inside of the loading gate, the original assembly number “301” is stamped. Also on the frame bottom, with the “301” and the refurbishment bin number “91”, are three other numbers: “2  55”. Only the frame has these numbers. Although not usually seen on refurbished guns, I suspect these indicate the date February, 1955. This would be consistent with the replaced parts for that era as mentioned. The grips are not the originals, but newer, late first generation replacements, added with the refurbishment. For whatever reason, the word “old” is scratched on the inside of both grips.

The holster with the gun is lightly tooled, heavy leather, double Mexican loop style made by Old West Outfitters, Scottsdale, Arizona, sometime after 1950. It is in very good using condition.
