LOP 13 3/4" Serial Number: 2X15768 Vintage Firearms is pleased to offer a rare bolt action medallion rifle chambered in the classic American .30-06 Springfield. The Browning High-Power rifles were made in three different grades: Safari, Medallion, and Olympian, offering progressively higher levels of quality and ornateness in the wood, checkering, and special features like engraved floorplates. The medallion grade specifically is an upgrade from the Safari, featuring better wood, skip-line checkering, a rosewood grip cap, and with a distinctive ram head engraved on the floorplate. Production numbers for these rifles are extremely low and often overlooked or not even known by most. In total the estimated production for all calibers in the Medallion Grade is estimated at 4035. This example, produced 1962, is in superb condition. The timeless Mauser action is smooth and elegant while not compromising on ruggedness and reliability. The 22” barrel retains a 99% factory finishes, while the receiver retains 100%, the engraving is clear and crisp. The receiver is tapped for a scope, and it is hard to see if it ever had one fitted given the receiver condition, not a mark visible! The stock features a Monte-Carlo comb with cheek piece, perfect skip-line checkering and a rosewood caped pistol grip and forend, with the classic white line spacer, the butt still has its original factory plate. The wood is stunning with plenty of figure, fiddleback and contrast, there are some marks to the factory Finnish, possible some well-earned hunting scars or maybe just from the gun being handled and admired, please see the photographs. Guns built after 1966 were prone to salt contamination and rust because of the way Browning cured their wood. Not all guns were affected, but the marketplace still has an aversion to guns built from 1967 to about 1971. This Medallion Grade was produced prior to this window meaning it’s salt free! The integrated control feed keeps the rounds right where they need to be, just one less thing you’ll have to think about. This medallion grade features is a hinged base plate making safe unloading a breeze! Perfect for your next hunting trip or as another fine addition to your collection.
