The Winchester Model 1886 was a lever-action repeating rifle designed by John Browning to handle some of the more powerful cartridges of the period. Production of the Winchester 1886 was from 1886 to 1935 with approximatley 160,000 produced.
This particular Winchester 1886 is chambered in very desirable 40-70 WCF. According to research there were about 862 Winchester 1886 produced in this caliber making it one of the scarcest calibers in production. To make it even rarer this rifle is also a takedown model. There are no statistics on how many takedowns were made per caliber but, with already limited production the number will be very low. Winchester producing the 1886 in 40-70 WCF in about 1910. According to the factory letter that accompanies this rifle it was produced in 1905 and shipped in 1908. The rifle was produced with a round barrel and a plain trigger. Among the special order features of the rifle other than being a takedown it has a checkered stock with a pistol grip and a Lyman Gold Bead Semi Jack #37 sight. Overall condition of the rifle is very good to excellent minor handling marks but, no major significant issues. The rifle retains almost all of its original bluing and case coloring while the stock and checkering are in great condition overall.
