Description: Antique Smith & Wesson double action .44 Russian with original holster.. A very nice and tight Smith &Wesson double action. Caliber is the very accurate .44 Russian. S/N 15426 and all matching on the frame, cylinder barrel latch and barrel. From the S/N range I would say this gun was made about mid to late 1880's. It has the standard 6” barrel. At first glance this gun looks like it has 80% original nickel finish. The metal has been very lightly cleaned to make the bare metal blend very well with the nickel finish.. Nothing harsh or aggressive was used and the gun still has excellent sharp edges. The frame has about 30% nickel including the front and rear grip straps.. The barrel has about.40% nickel and the cylinder has about 60%. The hammer still shows some nice case color. No blue on the barrel latch. The trigger guard shows traces of blue on the flats and a little inside. Markings are excellent. The grips are excellent as well with no cracks or chips and a perfect snap on factory fit. They still show all of their fine checkering and very little wear. The mechanics are excellent.. When you cock the gun in single action the cylinder locks up tight as a new gun. When you run the gun in double action with the trigger held to the rear in the fired position the gun locks up like new also with no cylinder side roll.. All in the odd way these guns lock up. Just a little play when the gun is at rest as these all do. Hardly any cylinder end shake and no cylinder side to side wobble on the arbor pin. Rock solid barrel to frame fit at the latch and the hinge. This gun is as tight as the day it left the factory. I would not be a afraid of shooting this gun with the proper black powder loads. The bore is excellent. Bright and shiny. The cylinder chamber are excellent as well. The extractor works perfectly. All the screw heads remain sharp and clean with no burring.. Front sight is full and never filled on. The original double loop holster fits the gun perfectly. The top loop has a tear on each side.. They have been glued and one is still holding while the other has broke loose. The stitching is open at the toe. A tear on the the top of the throat on the back side has been sewn with leather lace. No makers mark. Has the numbers 45 LC on the back as well as the numbers M386 and below that is 386 again.. I have no idea what gun this holster was made for but for sure a large frame double action revolver. This is just a real nice gun and holster at a reasonable price.
