Description:
Possible Prototype Nylon 66 .22 Lever Rifle from Collection of Remington VP
Offered here for sale and just acquired is a HIGHLY UNUSUAL and perhaps a one of a kind PROTOTYPE Remington Nylon 66 .22 rifle obtained years ago from the estate of a Remington Vice President here is Connecticut. Many executives had homes in Connecticut with Remington Rand’s corporate offices in Norwalk and Remington’s vast Union Metallic Cartridge (UNC) plant in Bridgeport, CT.
We have over the years been able to acquire arms fro  a number of estates of ex-Remington executives and recently sold prototypes which originated from the Remington Arms Museum collection reference collection when they were sold off decades ago.
The Remington Nylon 66 is one of the most historically significant .22 LR rifles ever made. It was produced by Remington Arms from 1959 until 1989, with more than 1,050,000 total units manufactured over its long production life.
The Nylon 66 was innovative for its time because it used DuPont’s Zytel nylon polymer for the stock and receiver body, making it extremely lightweight, durable, and resistant to weather and corrosion — a revolutionary departure from traditional wooden stocks.
Stock colors included Mohawk Brown, Seneca Green, and Apache Black. The Apache Black model is especially eye-catching, combining a black synthetic stock with chrome-plated barrel and receiver cover in standard production examples.  However during our more than 50 years in the business we are yet to have uncovered another example plated such as this specimen.
Due to its former ownership by a Remington Vice President this would appear to be a possible personal presentation or prototype piece —  gifted to corporate officers, executives, or used for a marketing/demonstration purposes and possibly executed by the Custom shop at Remington at the request of the VP or testing as a possible limited edition specimen with this plating making this an extremely rare and likely unique- or among a very small number  of similar presentation rifles.
The Apache Black is itself one of the more desirable Nylon 66 variants. Approximately 221,000 Apache Black rifles were made during regular production, featuring a black stock with white diamond inlays and chrome finish on barrel and receiver cover.
The combination of Apache Black with gold-plated metalwork — especially if executed at a high level — makes the rifle exceptionally uncommon and visually striking.
The rifle appears not to have been used or little used and shows a few storage marks from handling and perhaps testing. The plating on receiver shows some soft cloth polishing/wiping from handling.
We offer this specimen with documentation letter from Hansen & Hansen attesting to ownership history — by the Remington Arms Vice President .
Hansen and Hansen had acquired this prime example decades ago and are pleased to offer it for sale from our own company collection.
