Description:
24 inch octagon barrel chambered in 44 RF caliber. Bore has visible six groove rifling. Original sights include the later style front blade with the high square back and a rear with a sliding bar and the number “900” stamped at the top of the folding leaf. Barrel and magazine tube are a gray/brown patina with a few small dents and dings. Brass receiver has a nice attractively aged patina and features beautiful factory engraving from Samuel Hoggson. Fine scrollwork and wavy line borders with a scene of a dog pursuing a stag on the left side plate. Hammer and lever are a brown color with hints of case colors present. Nice functioning action. Refinished deluxe American walnut stock with attractive figure has a repair in the wrist and a crack coming off the butt with some light handling mars and a coat of finish added. Also has the early style rounded heel brass buttplate. 4 piece Hickory cleaning rod is present. There are sling swivels on the left side of the rifle but no visible Henry “Bump”. A good looking example of an engraved Henry rifle that was made during the middle of the Civil War in August of 1863.
