Description:
Price includes shipping in the 48 states. Offered here is a scarce Civil War Merrill carbine, that came right out of the estate of an 80 year collection. These were used primarily by Union cavalry units, with this neat example being a Confederate attributed muzzleloading conversion, in which there is old lead plugging the breech mechanism. The purpose of this may have been to allow loading with loose powder and ball, as the southerner who used this carbine may not have had access to proper paper wrapped cartridges containing the pointed nose bullets the Merrill was intended to be used with.

The collection had notes transcribed in a pdf format that state in relation to this Merrill carbine: "Purchased at a sale 6/18/43. Originally US, captured and used by Southern soldier, recaptured by member of unit from who brought it home from Vicksburg. Sale consisted of ancestral items from soldier who had been at Vicksburg under Grant."

The lock is numbered "4333" at the tail.

As an antique, this can ship directly to your doorstep in most states!
