Smith & Wesson 422 Field – 22LR – 4.5" Barrel – 10+1 – Vintage Smith!
Smith & Wesson produced the 422 from 1987 – 1996 as the model for the mid-priced rimfire pistol market. It’s a unique design in that the barrel sits just above the trigger guard, giving it a very low bore axis. Also, the barrel was factory threaded but a barrel nut was installed at the factory to fasten the barrel to the frame. Why does that matter? Well, aftermarket barrel adapters can still be purchased for less than $30. Install the adapter and you now have a fantastic platform to use with your rimfire suppressor, keeping the suppressor low enough that you can still use the factory sights! Our pistol (serial number TCV8292) would be happy to be your suppressor platform, your low cost plinker or just an attractive part of your vintage pistol collection.
The grips of this pistol are in Very Good – Excellent condition and show very little wear. The slide does have a few light scratches and one small spot of finish loss on top of the barrel. The backstrap has some spots of finish loss high on the grip that look like they might have been caused by the shooter wearing a ring.
The bore on the pistol is clean and the barrel is bright. The trigger has slight takeup to a firm wall and then a clean break. The manual safety on the left side of the pistol functions as intended.
Overall, this is a very nice example of a unique Smith & Wesson model. It’s affordably priced and ready to become a part of your collecton!
