Description:
Serial #22301, .54 Caliber, 21" barrel with a fine, bright bore that has mild freckling within the grooves. This carbine has about 70-75% of the original blue remaining on the barrel with the balance turned to a plum-brown and gray patina, with a few small impact marks on the top of the barrel ahead of the barrel band. The frame has a somewhat grayer patina with thin brown freckling throughout, as well as areas of pitting along the leading edge of the hammer, and on the forward portion of the lever. Original bright fire blue is still visible on the protected ares of the pivoting breechblock. The action locks firmly and is fully functional. The walnut forend and buttstock are in good shape with numeroushandling marks and minor surface blemishes scattered about the original oil finish finish. The inspector cartouche are still crisp and clear on the left side of the buttstock. This is a very good example of a Civil War Burnside, and would make a great representative example for a collection. Antique;
