THIRD MODEL Single Action Here Ancestry Guns presents an antique Factory Engraved and Factory Lettered Smith & Wesson Model of 1891 Third Model Single Action Revolver made in 1896 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Production of this model began in 1891 and was produced until 1911 with a total production of 28,107 guns produced. This model was one of the most interesting handguns manufactured by Smith & Wesson. It was available as a combination set consisting of a single shot barrel which could be in .22, .32, and .38 caliber, as well as the standard .38 caliber revolver, as is this example. Though this “Third Model” was generally produced with a standard trigger and bowed trigger guard, it could have been ordered with an inserted spur trigger. When the gun was sold with the spur trigger, it was called the .38 Single Action Mexican Model. This model was available in both blue and nickel finish having barrel lengths of 3-1/4”, 4”, 5”, and 6”. It was primarily equipped with the small black rubber grips. However, the extension target grips were available by special order. Per the included factory letter, this revolver was sent as a single piece to H.W. Folsom & Company of New York City on October 2, 1896. The letter calls out the 4-inch barrel and “type 3 S&W engraving” as original to the time of shipping, with the gold wash and pearl grips added later. Blade front and notch rear sights, with matching numbers on the barrel, latch, cylinder and frame, attractive scroll engraving on the barrel, cylinder and frame, and smooth pearl grips with S&W medallions. This example has been refinished. The overall condition is fine. Nicely gold plated. Lightly floral engraved. Excellent action. The bore is bright with strong rifling. Solid mother of pearl grips with minimal handling evidence. Markings are sharp. Numbers on the cylinder and frame match. Own the original! This is a legitimate antique and not a reproduction. Barrel is 4 inches. Caliber: .38 S&W Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe. FREE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE. Delivered directly to your door by express mail!
