Description:
Post-WWI DWM 1920 Dated 9mm Semi-Auto P.08 POLICE MARKED German LUGER C&R

1920 Mfr. with Multiple “CROWN/N” Proofs Post-WWI

Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R Policed Marked Semi-Automatic P.08 German Luger Pistol, made circa 1920 by Deutsche Waffen-und Munitionsfabriken (DWM) in Berlin, Germany. Basing his design off Hugo Borchardt’s seminal C93, Georg Luger successfully brought Borchardt’s work to practical fruition. While finding buyers for the C93 seemed an exercise in futility, the new Luger Pistol found many countries eager to test it and even adopt it. There are many variations in this field of collecting, but relatively few major changes in overall design from beginning to end. The Luger is certainly one of the most iconic firearms in history, made so by its association with Germany during both World Wars.

This example has multiple single “Crown/N” commercial proofs. It has fixed sights, a “DWM” monogram marked on the front toggle link, straw finished small parts, and checkered grips. No modifications have been made for a sear or magazine well safety. This example has fixed sights with “1920” on the chamber, “crown/N” proofs on the barrel and frame, and “L.P.Th.Nr.243.” on the frontstrap. “L.P. TH.” is more than likely is referring “Landespolizei-Technik” (Police Forces) and “Nr.243” refers to the specific unit or regimental number within that police force. Similar markings have also been found being used by the air surveillance unit in Pommern, Germany. The Crown over N is a German pre-war commercial proof mark used before April 1, 1940.

The overall condition is good. Much of the original finishes are preserved. Excellent action. Bright, strongly rifled bore. Both grips are solid with smooth checkering and average handling wear. Visible numbers match, although some numbers appear to have been re-numbered. Markings are sharp.
