Description:
English double barrel percussion fowler shotgun. Gauge unknown. Two – 32.5” barrels. Barrel is marked on the underside with post 1813 Birmingham Proof Company proof marks and view marks (crossed scepters and crown mark, incorporating the letters BPC, together with the crossed scepters over a V. There are also the letters DL, and I stamped between the barrels. No manufacturer has been identified. The walnut stock features checkering at the grip. The barrels, lock plates, trigger guard, and butt plate are all steel. Much of the hardware is engraved with floral designs and other decorative motifs. Includes a ramrod (possible replacement.) Manufactured 1830-1855.

Condition
The shotgun is mechanically functional. Both hammers cock and hold. Cosmetically, the shotgun is in fair condition. Much of the hardware has been heavily buffed of period pitting and corrosion. The trigger guard appears to be a modern handmade reproduction. The bore has not been visually inspected (requires a borescope.) The stock shows signs of period wear (nicks, dents, scratches. There a multiple period breaks, chips, and cracks throughout the forestock and grip. All appear stable.

Enhancements
The only enhancement done to this antique fowler was the heavy buffing of the hardware and barrels as well as the replacement trigger guard.
