Description:
F.G. Fisher double barrel Percussion rifle. Caliber unknown. 32” barrel (believed to have matching bore diameters.) Open sights – front bladed sight, rear sight with elevation adjustment. Barrel is marked F.G. FISCHER, BELLVIEW. Case hardened, hammers, lock and trigger guard feature scroll engraving and ornate motifs. Single trigger with adjustment screw. Figural walnut half stock with crescent-shape butt plate. The stock features a comb cheekpiece on the left-hand side. Ferdinand G. Fisher was a firearms manufacturer in Bellevue, Jackson County, Iowa circa 1860-1870. Bellevue is right on the Mississippi River, a few miles below Dubuque. He previously worked in Rock Island, Illinois, and later worked in McGregor, Clayton County, Iowa. Manufactured 1860-1870.

Condition
The rifle is mechanically functional and in fair condition cosmetically. Ther rifle contains little if any of the original casehardening and bluing. It has developed a brown patina consistent with age. There is minor manipulation to the screw heads found on the lock, tang, and trigger guard but it is not distracting. There is one screw missing in the upper tang. The bore has not been checked for condition (requires a borescope.) The barrel shows signs of period use (dings, and nicks.) Removing the barrel from the stock reveals a modern repair to the area where the key passes through the barrel attachment. The barrel key may be a replacement. The rifle is missing its ramrod. The walnut stock shows signs of period wear (dings, scuffs scratches.) There is one period chip in the stock on the right-hand side near the lock plate. The brass patch box is fully functional.
