Description: Guns Listing ID: 612654 New in box never fired - from gun shop owner‚s collection. The Benelli M4 (also known in military service as the M1014 Joint Service Combat Shotgun) is an Italian-designed, gas-operated semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun built for reliability and rugged performance in tactical environments. It is produced by Benelli Armi SpA, a storied Italian firearms manufacturer. Key Features Action: Semi-automatic with Benelli’s patented Auto-Regulating Gas-Operated (ARGO) system — a self-cleaning, short-stroke piston design that provides extremely reliable cycling even in harsh conditions. Gauge & Chamber: 12 gauge, capable of firing both 2¾" and 3" shells without adjustment. Barrel & Magazine: Typically fitted with an 18.5" barrel and a tube magazine holding 5–7 rounds, depending on configuration and shell length. Sights & Rails: Standard ghost-ring iron sights plus a MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail for optics, lights, lasers, and night-vision gear. Durability: Built with corrosion-resistant finishes and tested to endure tens of thousands of rounds in demanding conditions without major part replacement. Modularity: Many components (buttstock, forend, etc.) are designed for quick reconfiguration or replacement without special tools. Because of its gas system and design, the M4 handles recoil well for a shotgun of its size and remains controllable in rapid fire. History & Development Origin In 1998, the U.S. Army Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC) issued a request for proposals for a new semi-automatic combat shotgun for U.S. military use. Benelli responded with what would become the M4 Super 90. Testing & Adoption In August 1998, prototypes were delivered to Aberdeen Proving Ground (Maryland) and subjected to intense testing. The M4 outperformed competitors and was selected as the Joint Service Combat Shotgun. The first ~20,000 units were delivered to the U.S. Marine Corps in 1999, with the military designation M1014 (the “X" from the prototype XM1014 was dropped). Service Use Since its adoption, the M4/M1014 has served widely with U.S. forces including in combat operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. It has also been adopted by some international military and law-enforcement units for its tactical reliability and performance. Today, the M4 remains in service with the Marines and other branches and continues to be offered commercially to civilians and law-enforcement agencies with features optimized for sport, defense, or tactical use. Legacy & Reputation The Benelli M4 is widely regarded as one of the most dependable semi-automatic shotguns ever fielded, thanks in large part to its ARGO system and robust design. Its reliability in adverse conditions — mud, sand, moisture, and high round counts — helped solidify its reputation in both military and civilian circles. Commercial versions often mirror military specifications but are adapted for civilian markets with features like reduced magazine capacity, standard synthetic stocks, or aesthetic finishes.
