FOXTROT IS A LICENSED IMPORTER OF FIREARMS. WE LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR CALL! Description: This interesting set of tools; some made by Greenfield of London, others by G&J W. Hawksley; are nicely organized in large 14" x 9" x 10" mahogany box with lift-out tray having drawer. The biggest hint to the use of all these tools is a large bronze side pour bullet mould by Greenfield. Mould has large ebony handled base plug that nearly fills the mould cavity resulting in a poured lead "shell" with large internal space and hollow point. Top part of mould is cut for pouring the bullet's base plug through a steel sprue cutting gate. Bullet is cast with a 1/8" skirt at bottom. Large green painted bronze bullet forming die (by Greenfield) with removable 9" handle is used to put the cast shell and base plug together. Explosive compound is then poured through hollow nose of bullet, which is then plugged. A story from the early days of African hunting tells of Sir Samuel White Baker blowing up a buffalo at 100 yds. using an explosive bullet from his 2 bore rifle. Bullet mould is housed in the bottom of the case along with very large Hawskley flip-over capper/de-capper and pin type case crimper (6" wide x 10" high). Lift out tray has spaces in its top for bullet swedging die as well as case colored cartridge case sizing die with ebony rammer and re-capping punch. Another compartment holds ebony handled brass case expander. A covered compartment holds 3 keys. Lockable draw holds 2 brass topped Japaned tin bottles; "1" painted "Oxymuriate" "of" "Potash" (potassium perchlorate) the other, "2" "Sulphuret" "of" "Antimony" (antimony trisulfate). When mixed together these chemicals produce a powerful explosive very sensitive to shock. This compound was loaded into the shell type bullets. Compartment at back of drawer contains nicely made steel balance beam scale for weighing chemicals (small weights in round wooden covered container), hippo tooth small mortar marked with Bombay merchants name and pestle for mixing chemicals, a small steel funnel for pouring chemical into nose of bullet, a small glass bottle, grease wad plate and brass cutter by Greenfield, a Hawksley 4 bore wad cutter, a primer pocket reamer with ebony handle and a loaded 4 bore cartridge. Case is ruggedly made and has dual hook closure and inset circular "D" ring handle in top. Case is lined in green cloth and a label for Bombay gun dealers "Goolamhoosain Allibhoy & Sons" (matching name on bottom of mortar) in lid. CONDITION: very fine retaining over 80% original finishes. Case has most of what appears to be original finish with marks and scratches. Interior is good. A really neat artifact from the days of the Raj. Description by Mal MacGregor. This is a perfect accessory for all collectors of vintage stopping rifles made by Holland & Holland, Rhodda, WW Greener, and other English makers. A rare find and unusal piece of history.
