I prefer to sell each firearm myself instead of leaving it to the whims of an auuction. I will be listing rifles, shotguns, old, modern, some NIB, and some that are rare. In purchasing from me, you are dealing with the actual owner and not a dealer who has no familiarity with the firearm. I have owned these firearms for anywhere from a year and a half, to several decades. When purchasing from me, there will be no surprise needed repairs. Without my own FFL, I have to ship by US Postal. I ship Priority but they are very slow these days. Expect the firearm to be in transit for up to 2 weeks. Description: 8mm Mauser of course. Serial #5472 with a small b on receiver and stock, #8745 on bolt. Feel free to do your own research, here is what I have found in mine. This is a dot 1941 stamped rifle, further adding to the rarity as not many came with the 3-piece dovetail stock. A Forgotten Weapons video explains that the stocks didn’t take stamps very well, but with the aid of a high-res camera, most of the serial number can be seen on mine. The 5 is mostly gone due to an impact mark, there is quite a bit of the 4 left, most the 7 can be seen, and the 2 is clearly discernable. And the lower case b is also clear to see. This easily supports that this is the original stock to the gun. There are several other stamps in the stock that are the Eagle/Swastika along with “WaA63” stamped below them. "Gebirgsjager" German Mountain Troops rifle. The stocks of these rifles took a beating as they were used for bracing while getting around in the mountains, and also in being subjected to sudden temperature extremes of going back and forth between heated bunkhouses and the high altitude frigid air. All these rigors subjected the stocks to cracking. So the 3-piece dovetail came along as a remedy. I’ve found some info that the spliced stock would absorb impacts and temperature variations better. I found other info stating the 3 piece design helped stretch out the walnut supply. Whatever the case the work involved in making this kind of stock was exacting and thus difficult, aka added cost, so there aren’t as many around. This one seems very well done, as the photos will show, but if the effort was to prevent cracking it wasn’t 100% effective on this one. There is a short crack down by the floorplate. There are some very tight (surface crack?) hairlines below the barrel shank on the left side that follow natural marks in the wood. See photos. There is a small hairline near the serial number stamping in the stock where an impact mark took out most the 5 in the serial number. There are typical military storage and handling marks, but certainly not excessive. There is a coat of varnish. The metal seems to be relatively free of surface pitting and has some decent remaining bluing, don't know if bluing is original or not. The buttplate of course has the usual surface pitting. There is a distinct line in the bluing right below the front sight, where the shade of the bluing slightly changes from that point to the end of the barrel. My guess is that is the area a bayonet would attach. As for the bore, the "rifling" still has great raised definition to it, and although not mirror bright, still has some shininess left in borelight, and there is no frosting. I don’t see any import marks. Everything functions as it should, it is a sweet shooting rifle. The Pre98 webbsite sold one for 5750 dollars. It was matching numbers and mine isn’t due to the bolt being a different number, but mine does has the correct bolt with the hollowed handle knob for this model. Two different sources in my research stated the bolts are often mismatched on these rifles as the bolts would be thrown into one pile while the rifle would go into another pile as the Gebirgsjager surrendered to the Allies. I believe the sight hood and cleaning rod are correct, but I defer to the experts. Legacy Collectibles has sold several of them, varying in prices, but none of them I found had this 3 piece dovetail stock. Given these values, I think mine is very reasonably priced, and is probably the only one with this stock that is currently for sale anywhere on the planet at this time. Due to the scarcity, the collectiblily, and the upper end values of these, I can provide 76 photos and a short video clip of it in operation, to a SERIOUS buyer/collector. I will accommodate personal inspections if you want to send a forum member over to look it over for you. Terms are as per this Description section and our correspondence. Cash only if a Local sale. For local sale I will only sell to anyone who is verified to purchase a firearm so I would need to see either a FFL, or Neb. Firearm Purchase Certificate, and ID with either, just like it's done at the auuctions/shows. Concealed Carry Permit works as well. If you are from out of state but can make the drive, there is an FFL in Lincoln that will do the transfer for 25 bucks. I will ship to an FFL. If you do not have your own FFL you must contact your FFL provider and ensure that they will accept firearms that come from a private individual like me that does not have an FFL. I can provide them a copy of my ID. I will also need contact info for your receiving FFL so that I can arrange shipping with them. If I'm shipping the firearm, payment for the firearm and shipping combined is by Bank Cashier's Check ONLY. Shipping is to only the lower 48 and is a flat fee of 65 dollars.
