Payment Types Accepted: Description: Here offered is an Early Post-War (1947) Smith & Wesson .38-44 Heavy Duty revolver. Introduced in 1930, this model was a .38 Special caliber revolver built on the .44 caliber frame. A new / more powerful version of the .38 Special cartridge was developed that delivered 1140 fps speed as compared to the 850 fps of a normal .38 Special. This revolver was built for that round. Shortly before we got into WWll, S&W engineers developed some internal changes, but before these could be implemented, The War halted all production of S&W’s usual products. When The War ended, it was discovered that some Pre-War parts (mostly the little hammers and long action components) were left, so to was decided to use these up before switching to the new larger hammers and short actions. Collectors call these “transition” models. Built in 1947, S68285 is one of these. It is a high condition / 100% original piece with all numbers matching including the grips. The recoil shield and ejector rod show no evidence of this revolver being shot much past test firing, and one needs a powerful imagination to see a cylinder drag line! Other than a VERY slight muzzle wear, and a few scattered “age “ spots, there is scant excuse to wish it was any better cosmetically. Please call (520-399-0440) or email dmkernazcox with any questions. Shipped to your FFL dealer insured for $45. Payment by cashiers check or money order. C&R eligible. Since not many transition models were made, and since nearly 80 years has past from when this handsome old gentleman left Springfield, you maybe don’t want to pass this opportunity up!
