Rare Jefferson Arms Model 260 .22 Magnum Rifle
Offered here for sale and just acquired is this original SCARCE semi-auto rifle from the 1960s whose origins are from Winchester in New Haven, CT.
This .22 Magnum semi-auto rifle with 24" barrel is all original and appears to be in UNFIRED condition. The rifle is about 100% except for some very slight storage marks. The stocks on the rifle are hand-picked select highly figured walnut. Original factory hard rubber recoil pad.
In the heart of “gun country”Jefferson Arms was a small, short-lived American firearm manufacturer operating in the New Haven/North Haven, Connecticut area in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Started by former Winchester executives in New Haven, the company is best known among collectors for producing early .22 semi-automatic rifles, including some of the earliest .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire self-loading rifles at a time when most .22 WMR guns were bolt-actions.
This outfit often acted as an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) — building rifles that were later branded or sold under other names (such as Colt’s Colteer rifles in the 1950s/60s) or under their own “Jefferson” designation before transitioning/selling assets to what became Kodiak Arms Company.
This particular specimen was acquired by us about 20 years ago from an employee who worked in the “stock” department and who had the opportunity to hand pick his own quality stock for his rifle. We again have the good fortune to acquire it again from a new collection.
A RARE SPECIMEN in UNFIRED condition this rifle represents an attempt to create a new company from early Winchester roots and later Colt successor provider- a fine addition for any Winchester/Colt collector.
