Smith, 1927, .410 Bore, 5lbs. 11oz., Chokes LM/XF, LOP 14 5/16", DAH 2 3/4", DAC 1 5/8" Serial Number: 97762 Ideal grade guns are not hard to find; they are very recognizable with their unique oakleaf and acorn line engraving pattern, and the maker’s name stamped at the front of the locks. There were 26,686 Ideal grades made in all configurations. And yet there were only 232 made in .410, and 110 of those had 26-inch barrels, and according to the L.C. Smith Collectors Association Letter (pictured) there were only 7 made in the exact configuration of this gun; making this quite the find. This sweetheart has stunning factory case color on a receiver that has exceptional, sharp engraving in the signature Ideal oak leaf pattern. The fit and finish on this gun is excellent, including being tight on hinge, tight on face, and having excellent wood to metal fit. The three position “Combined Automatic and Independent Safety”, and double triggers function as they should. When the action is closed, the lever lands well right of center, for many years of shooting ahead with a tight action. The 26” barrels have bright shiny bores with one area of marking in the left bore, and the factory blue holds at 97% with just a few light handling marks from all its years of faithful service. The forend has an ebony wedge at the tip, a banjo-shaped escutcheon, with the roller-style release. The double bordered point pattern checkering is deep, sharp, and in excellent condition on the forend the capped, half pistol grip stock. The grain of the wood is very straight and fine with an oil rubbed finish that is in exceptional condition. The stock terminates in a classic Hawkins recoil pad. This fine firearm has the pedigree and classic good looks that make it a welcome addition to any gun room.
