The High Standard Mfg. Co. was officially founded in 1926, and in 1932 it moved to a bigger plant in Hamden, Conn., where production began. This pistol is a semi-automatic .22 LR target pistol manufactured from 1951 to 1957. It is well known for its accuracy and was popular in competitive shooting events during the 50s. It was made highly successful on the civilian market and even found its way into military contracts. Recruits were given these pistols to practice their marksmanship instead of the .45 caliber 1911 pistol. These pistols were available in a 4.5 inch and 6.75 inch barrel length, with the latter including an integral muzzle brake. A truly neat feature is the barrel interchangeability. With the push button take down, it was sinch to make the change. They also came equipped with removable barrel weights (2 oz and 3 oz), enhanced customization, balance and accuracy. To top all of that off, the adjustable rear sight is all gravy. High Standard’s production over the years has been vast. Over time, it mainly produced handguns, including plinkers, target guns, long and short barrels, as well as serious competition pieces. If you’ve ever heard the term “space gun”, odds are good that they were talking about High Standard. The slide stop is removed from above the right grip, but this does not seem to be too uncommon for a competition level shooter. We imagine it “getting in the way” and being an awkward function at greater speeds. The overall condition is fine. Original finish. Excellent action. Bright, sharpy rifled bore. Markings are crisp. Visible numbers match. Very fine grips. This firearm is classified as a Curio & Relic. Barrel is 6-3/4 inches. Caliber: .22 LR Overall condition as seen in photos. Very Fast. Very Safe.
