Being a single shot, it naturally instills the “make your one shot count” mentality from a young age. Shapleigh Hardware Company was headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri. The prominent wholesale hardware distributor was established in 1843 led by entrepreneur extraordinaire, Augustus Shapleigh. Over time, it grew to become a significant player in the American hardware industry. It’s no wonder that William Enders, a notable figure in the firearms trade, caught wind of the major St. Louis retailer. Enders initially served as Sales Manager for E.C. Simmons Hardware before advancing to the role of Vice President. He was affiliated with several trade names, including Enders Royal. Hopkins & Allen and Shapleigh Hardware were a match made in heaven! The Enders trade names were part of Shapleigh’s strategy to promote affordable, dependable firearms through its extensive distribution network. This specimen features a 25-5/8 inch barrel equipped with a stationary front sight and adjustable rear sight. The left receiver is stamped “Enders Royal Scout” with a rolled image of an Indian Chief, and “22 LONG RIFLE” on the left side of the barrel.
