Based on a modern Winchester "Classic" Model 70 w/ control round feed action, M70 trigger, and 3-position safety and upgraded new Sunny Hill one-piece bottom metal w/ a straddle floorplate and inside-the-bow release. The action has been blueprinted, polished internally, and the bolt release built up and checkered. The magazine holds 4 rounds down and the action is fitted w/ hex-head action screws and Talley scope bases that have been sculpted. Doing business as MNR Custom, Matthew Roberts is a member of the American Custom Gunmaker's Guild as a Professional Stockmaker. His stock on this rifle is made of a highly figured piece of California English walnut and it has been expertly laid out and very elegantly shaped. The stock has very straight figure through the wrist that turns down in the butt towards the toe of the stock. There is lots of figure on both sides w/ a bit of feather crotching as well. Matthew's stock shape is reminiscent of the English gunmakers' and incorporates a tradtional RH beaded cheekpiece, an open grip style, a drop belly over the magazine, and a shorter forend w/ a quickly tapering Ebony forend tip giving the rifle a very nice profile. The stock has a 13 7/8" LOP over an orange Pachmayr Decelerator pad, an inletted rear sling swivel, two smooth steel cross bolts, a smooth solid steel single screw grip cap, and wrap around point pattern checkering cut at 26 LPI w/ Mullered borders. The hand rubbed oil finish is also expertly done w/ a very rich color and just a little sheen to it. The action is fitted w/ a 24" Bartlein barrel tapers to a muzzle diameter of .700" and has a barrel band front sling swivel between an ERA Classic island rear sight w/ 1 standing Express sight and 2 folding leaves and an ERA Masterpiece banded/hooded front sight w/ nickle silver bead on the sight blade and a removable "Window" sight hood. Rifle weighs 9 lbs. even w/ no scope rings attached. Action and barrel are finished in a high lustre black CeraKote, save for the bolt body and extractor that are polished to improve cycling of the bolt. The rifle has been completed in the last year or so and remains in "As New" conditon. The rifle has just the right contours for a medium bore rifle like this and remains lively in the hands. The rifle's quality and construction is on par w/ any custom gunmaker in the U.S. and represents one of the best values out there when it comes to a rifle made by Custom Gunmaker's Guild member.
