Description:
1951 mfr. SIMSON & COMPANY Double Barrel SxS 12 Gauge GERMAN Shotgun C&R

Mid-20th Century HUNTING/SPORTING Side by Side

Here Ancestry Guns presents a C&R Simson & Company Double Barrel Side by Side 12 Gauge Shotgun, made in Germany circa 195. In 1854 the brothers Löb and Moses Simson bought one third of a steel-hammer works in Suhl (Germany). The production of carbon steel began, and the firm Simson & Co. was founded in 1856. The factory produced guns and gun barrels in the years following. Simson manufactured a variety of firearms, including double barrel shotguns. The company ceased operations in 1936 due to the Third Reich takeover when it made arms for Hitler’s army through 1945 when World War II ended. After World War II, the factory was integrated into a Russian state motorcycle company, and production of sporting arms resumed around 1951. The company ceased operations in 2002 and declared bankruptcy in 2003.

Though England and Belgium were the epicenter for European gunmaking all the way through the turn of the century, fine hunting guns were also produced by German manufacturers. This is a German fowling piece that is elegant in its simplicity and practicality. This double barrel hammerless gun would have been used for putting game on the table, spending a fun afternoon skeet shooting, or defending one’s property.

The overall condition is excellent. Original finish is preserved. Excellent action. Mirror bright, smooth bores. Very fine stock and forend with sharp checkering. Marckings are clear. Numbers match. A fine quality and handsome shotgun from Simson & Company!
