Description:
Serial #2L790, .303 British, 25" barrel with an excellent, bright bore. This was originally an early WW2 production rifle that was FTR repaired in 1956 and rebuilt using one of the 1950-made replacement Long Branch receivers, and arsenal renumbered to match the original receiver in 1956. The metal of the receiver retains 95-97% of the arsenal-applied blue finish, while the remaining metal has slightly less blue remaining, with silvering at the muzzle, along the high edges, and along the bearing surfaces of the matching numbered bolt. A small import mark The stock set and handguards are in very good shape, with numerous small handling marks and blemishes scattered about the added military oil finish and flaked Suncorite remaining on the nosecap. The rifle is equipped with a Canadian C Mk.3 sheet metal rear sight, a matching numbered magazine, and "C (Broad Arrow)" marked Canadian canvas sling. Long Branch production of the No. 4 rifle ceased in 1945, but was resumed in 1949 as there were too few remaining in Canadian stores to equip their troops. Series rifle production was finally completed for good in 1950, along with numerous replacement receivers intended to be used to rebuild earlier rifles whose receivers were deemed too worn or damaged to be retained. These receivers were all built in 1950, but were marked with the year of the rebuild ("1956" in the case of this rifle) and stamped with the original serial number of the rifle they were installed on. This example is in very good-near fine condition overall. FFL or C&R;
