Description: Offered here is a very scarce and highly collectible Winchester Model 12 12 gauge pump shotgun featuring the seldom encountered factory “STAINLESS STEEL” marked barrel. These special barrels were produced in extremely limited numbers during the late 1920s and early 1930s as Winchester experimented with corrosion resistant barrel steel. Surviving examples are rarely seen on the market today, making this an exceptional opportunity for the serious Model 12 collector. Serial number 660725 dates this shotgun to 1931, firmly within the desirable pre war golden era of Winchester production. This is a true smoothbore shotgun (not rifled), exactly as it should be for a Model 12. The 30" barrel is marked “STAINLESS STEEL” and choked FULL, making it well suited for trap, waterfowl, or upland use just as intended when new. • Bore: Bright and shiny. Strong and clean. • Barrel: Shows light, scattered handling marks consistent with age, with clear 'STAINLESS STEEL' marking intact. • Receiver: Excellent metal condition with honest wear, no signs of abuse or refinishing. • Wood: Original stock with a few minor handling marks. No cracks or structural issues. • Overall: A well?preserved, honest example of a scarce and desirable factory variation. • Manufacturer: Winchester • Model: Model 12 • Gauge: 12 Gauge • Barrel Length: 30 inches • Chamber: 2 3/4" • Choke: FULL (marked) • Rib: Solid (ribless field barrel) • Front Sight: Brass bead • Action: Pump • Trigger: Single • Buttplate: Original Winchester • Era: Pre?War (1931) Winchester’s stainless steel barrel experiment was short?lived, and only a small number of Model 12s were fitted with these barrels. Many collectors have never handled one in person. This makes the gun not only a functional classic but also an important piece of Winchester’s production history. These stainless barrel Model 12s are becoming increasingly difficult to find especially in honest, unmodified condition like this.
