Description: This is an exceptional Winchester Model 42 chambered in .410 bore with a highly desirable 28 inch solid rib barrel and factory Skeet choke configuration, manufactured circa 1949. The Model 42 is widely regarded as the finest pump action .410 shotgun ever produced, and solid rib Skeet variants are among the most sought after configurations by collectors and shooters alike. The barrel is factory marked for Skeet choke and features a solid flat file cut rib with a brass front bead. The bore is bright, clean, and free from pitting or frosting, reflecting careful use and proper maintenance over its lifetime. This shotgun is fitted with a beautifully figured feather crotch checkered walnut stock and the correct elongated Skeet style checkered forend. The wood is in excellent condition with only very minor handling marks and no cracks. The metal retains excellent original finish with only slight, honest edge wear consistent with light field or range use. Mechanically, the shotgun is excellent. The action is tight, smooth, and functions exactly as a proper Model 42 should. The Winchester Model 42 was introduced in 1933 as a scaled down version of the Model 12 specifically designed for the .410 bore. By the late 1940s, Skeet shooting had surged in popularity, making factory Skeet configured Model 42s especially desirable. Solid rib versions were produced in far smaller numbers than plain barrel field guns, and high condition examples such as this are becoming increasingly difficult to find. This shotgun represents an outstanding opportunity to own a premium, collector grade Winchester Model 42 in one of the most desirable post-war configurations.
