Description: Offered here is a highly desirable Winchester Model 42 chambered in .410 bore, configured with a 28 inch solid rib barrel and factory skeet choke marking. This example dates to approximately 1952 and represents one of the most sought after target configurations of the legendary Model 42. The Winchester Model 42, introduced in 1933, was purpose-built as a scaled-down pump shotgun specifically for the .410 bore. Unlike other small-bore pumps adapted from larger gauges, the Model 42 was engineered from the ground up for balance, handling, and performance. Solid rib skeet guns such as this were favored by serious skeet shooters in the post war era and remain highly collectible today. This shotgun features a factory solid flat filed rib, brass front bead, and a 28 inch barrel marked for skeet. The stock is a checkered walnut pistol grip configuration with its original grip cap and original Winchester buttplate. The elongated skeet style forend provides excellent control and is correct for this configuration. Condition is excellent overall. The bore is bright, clean, and free of pitting or frosting. Metal surfaces show only very light, honest handling wear consistent with careful use. The wood is solid with no cracks, showing only minor handling marks. Mechanically, the shotgun is excellent and functions exactly as it should. Factory solid rib Model 42 skeet guns from this period are increasingly difficult to find in original, high condition form. This is a fine example suited for both the collector and the shooter who appreciates classic American craftsmanship.
