Description:
Offered here is a classic and highly desirable Winchester Model 42 chambered in .410 bore, fitted with a 28 inch barrel and manufactured in 1947 during the early post World War II production period. The Model 42 is widely regarded as the finest pump action .410 shotgun ever produced, built on its own scaled receiver rather than adapting a larger gauge frame. Because of this, the Model 42 has earned a reputation for exceptional balance, handling, and craftsmanship.

This example features a factory solid flat file cut rib and a barrel marked FULL choke a configuration that appeals strongly to collectors and shooters alike. Solid rib Model 42s were produced in far smaller numbers than plain barrel field guns, and postwar production guns like this represent the period when Winchester resumed civilian sporting arms manufacture with prewar standards of fit and finish.

The shotgun remains in excellent overall condition. The metal retains strong original blue with only very light, honest handling wear. The walnut stock and forearm show minor handling marks consistent with careful use, with no cracks or structural issues. The bore is bright, shiny, and free of pitting or frosting. Mechanically, the shotgun is excellent, with the smooth action and precise lockup for which the Model 42 is famous.

This is a classic American small bore pump shotgun in a sought after configuration, ideal for collectors of Winchester sporting arms or anyone looking for a high quality .410 built during the golden age of American gunmaking.
