Description: This is a classic post war Winchester Model 42 chambered in .410 bore with a 28 inch solid rib barrel, manufactured circa 1954. The Model 42 is widely regarded as the finest pump action .410 ever produced and remains one of the most desirable smallbore American sporting shotguns among both collectors and shooters. This example features a factory solid rib barrel with brass front bead and is marked SKEET choke on the barrel. It is chambered for 3 inch .410 shells, giving it both collector appeal and practical versatility in the field or on the skeet range. Correct Winchester proof marks are present on both the barrel and receiver, supporting original factory configuration. The shotgun is fitted with a checkered walnut pistol grip stock and a skeet style elongated forend, a highly desirable configuration on Model 42s. It retains its original Winchester buttplate and original grip cap, further confirming its originality. The wood shows only minor, honest handling marks with no cracks or structural issues. The metal finish remains in good overall condition with light, typical bluing wear in handling areas. The bore is bright, shiny, and free of pitting or frosting. Mechanically, the shotgun is excellent, with the smooth, tight action that has made the Model 42 famous. Introduced in 1933, the Model 42 was Winchester’s only pump shotgun designed specifically for the .410 bore. Production numbers were always modest compared to larger gauge pumps, and solid rib, skeet-choked examples such as this are especially sought after today. A fantastic opportunity to own a true classic American .410 pump that represents Winchester craftsmanship at its best and continues to grow in collector interest.
